“Small Minded Men”
After the landslide of 1945 he followed Churchill into the wilderness But the wiry, youthful, and im mensely active man was soon im
mersed in the building up of the United Europe organisation. His comment on the recent exchange of letters between Churchill and Attlee and Shinwell is; “It is a great pity that small-minded men at the headquarters of the Labour Party Executive should discourage members from work in our organisation and from participating in the Hague conference next May—an international forum, in which leading Socialists of Western Europe will be effectively represented. I only hope that plenty of members of the Labour Party here will take a broader view and regard it as their duty to attend at The Hague.
