625 STATE HOUSES ERECTED IN WANGANUI AT END OF FEBRUARY
At the end of February last 625 State rental houses had been built in the Wanganui district and handed over for occupation and of this number 425 units were in the city area. At the end of February, there were 81 units undex- construction, 67 of them being in the city area. Twenty-three houses, in addition to other buildings, have been built in the Wanganui district for the settlement of returned servicemen. Of the district totals, seven houses were handed over in Bulls, 80 in Marton with four under construction, 14 in Ohakune, 48 in Patea with six under construction, 30 in Talhape with two under construction, 12 in Waverley, foux- in Waitotara and five in Raetihi with two under construction. The following farm buildings were erected throughout the district up to the end of February:Kotuku Farm Settlement, Marton. Three houses, three milk sheds, three implement sheds. Cherry Bank Farm Settlement, near Wanganui.—Two houses, two milk sheds.
Kawhatau Farm Eettlement, near Utiku.—One house, two implement sheds, renovations to existing buildings. Tawanui Farm Settlement, 15 miles from Feilding.—Two houses, three milk sheds, repairs to existing house. Rata Farm Settlement, Rata.—Two houses.
Turakina Farm Settlement, Turakina.—One house, two milk sheds, one implement shed. Makirikiri Farm Settlement, near Turakina.—Two houses, two milk sheds, two implement sheds. Pakihikura Farm Settlement, near Hunterville.—One house, two implement sheds, renovations to cottage. Pearce Block, near Patea.—Five houses, five milk sheds, five implement sheds. Somerville Estate Farm Settlement. Mangaweka.—One house. Awarua Farm Settlement, near Utiku.— Three houses.
“A further 123 contracts have been completed for the rural housing scheme in country areas (roughly quarter of these n tiie area bounded by Patea, Waverley, Marton, Bulls and Wanganui) and houses have been provided for other departments, such such as the Railway Department, P. and T. Department, Police Department and Agriculture Department.”
