Programme Arranged For Wanganui Visit Of Sir John Falconer
Scots in Wanganui and district would welcome the visit to the city of Sir John Falconer, former Lord Provost of Edinburgh,, with his message of greeting to Scots and their descendants overseas, said Mr. A. McSkimming, president of ;he Wanganui Highland Pipe Band, when outlining the itinerary arranged for Sir John in and around Wanganui. The tentative programme had been submitted to tiie Department in Internal Affairs and had been approved by Sir John, added Mr. McSkimming. Sir John Falconer will arrive in Wanganui at 12.30 p.m. on Thursday and will stay at Foster’s Hotel as the guest of the Government. He will be met on arrival by representatives of the City Council, by Mr James Patterson (patron), A. McSkimming (president) and S. R. McCallum (treasurer), representing the Wanganui Highland Pipe Band. In the afternoon Sir John will pay a visit to the Wanganui Technical College, and in the .evening he will receive an official welcome at a dinner and social evening which will be tendered in his honour at the Carlton Hall. On Friday morning he will visit the Wanganui Collegiate School and in tiie afternoon he will be at the Wanganui Girls’ College, afterwards visiting the Virginia Lake Reserve and Centennial Winter- Gardens. He will be the guest of Mr. and Mrs. W. McA. Duncan at afternoon tea. Saturday morning's programme will include a visit to Mr. I. Mclntyre's model dairy farm at Okirae, Fordell, and he will then go on to Hunterville to attend tiie sports carnival being held there in aid of the Hunterville Pipe Band.
On Sunday morning Six’ John will attend St. Paul’s Church, and in the afternoon visits will be paid to Mr. G. F. Moore’s Busily Park Stud, Kai Iwi, and Mr. J. G. Alexander’s Cranleigh Stud, Maxwell, where the Derby winner, Coronach, will be a centre of interest, having been sent out to New Zealand by Mrs Macdonald-Buchanan, daughter of his breeder, Lord Doolavington. Sir John will leave Wanganui on Monday for Waitomo Caves and Rotorua.
