SUCCESS OF JAGUA AT WANGANUI MOTOR BOAT REGATTA
The great interest in motor-boat racing was evidenced on Saturday afternoon, when the Wanganui Motor Boat Club held a series of races on the Wanganui River in the presence of about 2000 spectators. The racing, in the majority of events, was close and exciting and the various boats were handled with marked skill and ability. A feature of the afternoon was the success of Jagua, owned by Mr. B. Galpin, of Marton. A first season competitor, Mr. Galpin with his speed boat Jagua won the Cuthbertson Cup, the Merewether Cup, Bethune Cup and the Helean Cup. Mr. Galpin gave the crowd a thrill by handling his boat at full throttle at the turns, which added a spectacular touch. Excellent organisation, under the supervision of Mr. Sam Brewer, sew the programme carried through with a minimum of delay. At the conclusion of the racing the trophies were presented by Mr. G. P. Hawking, one of the oldest members of Wanganui Motor Boat Club. He expressed gratification at the large attendance and the support given the fixture by motor boat owners. The success of the day augured well for next season when a full programme of seasons activities will be carried out. Results were:—
