DANISH CONSUL’S VISIT The Danish Consul-General for New Zealand, Mr. Karl S. Eskelund, and Mrs. Eskelund, were the Easter weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Bowler, Taihape. On Friday evening they were guests of honour at dinner at a hotel. The guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bowler included Sgt. and Mrs. A. Doel and Mr. and Mrs. M. Nicol. , A luncheon party was held on Saturday at the hotel, when the following met the Consul and his wife: Mrs. J. Thomasen senr., Mr. and Mrs. J. B Thomasen and Miss Thora Thomasen, Miss Patricia Kilkolly, Miss Ngaire Boles, Mr. V. Leggatt and Mr. C. Stewart (Auckland).

Following luncheon, Mr. and Mrs. Eskelund and Mr. and Mrs. Bowler were the guests of the Waiouru Naval W/T Station. On Saturday evening dinner guests included Mr. P. Kearins, M.P., and Mrs. Kearins. Mr. Eskelund was keenly interested in the Taihape Bowling Club, at whose green he was a spectator for a considerable time. Mrs. Eskelund is an enthusiastic amateur photographer and greatly admired Tainape's native bush, of which she took a number of photographs. Mr. and Mrs. Eskelund left by car on Easter Monday morning for Wellington. HALI-' AN INCH OF RAIN IN MARCH Only 54 points of rain were recorded in Taihape during March, reports Mr. A. R. Fannin, Papaki Road, who states that the rainfall for tlie year to March 31 has been 3.65 inches, compared with 8.50 inches for the same period last year, and average over 43 years for this period of 859 inches. Meteorological data, based on daily recordings by Mr. Fannin at 9 a.m., is as follows: Temperatures Mean maximum in shade: 69.3<Jeg. (March, 1947, 65.9; mean for March for 37 years, 64.9). Mean minimum in shade: 49.6 deg. (49.2, 48.4). Highest maximum in shade: 78.2 on Ist (March, 1947, 73.2 on 7th). Lowest minimum in shade: 43.0 on 11th (March, 1947, 41.6 on 31st). Mean minimum (on grass): 42.6 (March, 1947, 43.3; mean for 37 years, 42 5). Lowest (on grass): 35.1 on Bth (March, 1947, 33.4 on 31st). Mean earth temp, at 2ft: 62.1 (March, 1947, 60.5; mean for 37 years, 60.3). Rainfall Marell. 1948: 0.54 in. (March, 1947, 1.31 in; mean for 43 years, 2.47 in. > Days with rain: March, 1948, 8 (Marell, 1947, 5). Greatest fall in one day: 0.24 in. on 20 th (March, 1947, 0.94 in. on 26th).
