ROAD AND BRIDGE MAINTENANCE IN WANGANUI COUNTY

“More frequent maintenance will be carried out on the Mangamahu Road now that most of comprehensive grading work has been completed on other roads,” reported the engineer (Mr. R. R. Dawson) at yesterday’s meeting of the Wanganui County Council.

“Timber will shortly come to hand for repairing the decking on the Mangawhero Bridge and the necessary repairs will be made this month. The painting of the house will also be started this month. The metalling of the Creek Road has been completed and further additional culverts are being placed where necessary.” On the Wangaehu River Road, metal repairs had been made between Mangamahu and the Koukoupo Stream. More culverts were being placed in the road to minimise flood damage. Good progress was being made with the construction of Poison’s Bridge and the skeleton superstructure was expected to be completed during the week. Practically all the roads in the Upper Wangaehu district had been reshaped with a grader and were now in very good condition. Only light metal repairs are necessary, and this work will be carried out immediately.
