Easter Monday racing yesterday was marked by several surprises. At Ellerslie, Lord Kevel paid double figures when lie set a New Zealand record for a mile and a-half in winning the Nolan Handicap, the main event, and the Silver-Stick colt, Silver Sam, outsider of the St. Leger field, won the classic. At Feilding there were four successful favourites, Mesalliance winning the Goodbehere Memorial. At Ricearton, False Step won the Great Easter and Kartikeya the Great Autumn. Dark Arrow won the Autumn Handicap at the Wairarapa meeting, and Dark Flash won the Waipukurau Cup. Racing will be continued today at Ellerslie and Ricearton.
