Jewish-British Contact In Jerusalem Ceases
London, Feb. 24. Contact between the Jews and British in Jerusalem has ceased for the time being except in Government offices. It is considered inadvisable that either members of the armed forces or civilians should enter Jewish parts of the city just now, says "The Times" Jerusalem correspondent. The Jews are officially asking that members of the British forces should be withdrawn indefinitely from these areas, or, when entering, submit themselves to a thorough search by the Haganah. The Palestine Government is not likely to agree to these blunt demands, though it is willing to hear reasonable representations on security. Tpe correspondent adds that Jewish commentators continue to declare positively that the British were responsible for Sunday's outrage, and only allow themselves doubts whether it was done with, or without, Government instigation. The Arabs refuse to offer any official comment as to who might have done it, tVt make much of the one fact to which the Jews make no reference, namely, that whoever was responsible was largely copying the methods of Jewish terrorists.
