THIRD YACHT ARRIVES IN SYDNEY AFTER ROUGH TASMAN CROSSING
Recd. 7 p.m. Sydney, Feb. 4 Wayfarer, which crossed the finishing line in the trans-Tasman yacht race at 6.6 a.m. today, has been placed second on handicap to Peer Gynt. The result is not final as Pagan and Te Hcngi still have a chance of affecting tne positions. Wayfdrer suffered torn • sails and a battered hull when caught in the cyclone. The skipper, Peter Luke, said that when a heavy sea struck the stern throwing the ship around 90 degrees, the heac'. stay was fractured. With big waves breaking over them, the crew members hung out on the bowsprit until repairs were completed.
