O.C. Hunterviile, Feb. 2. Mr and Mrs Ball of Wellington were week-end visitors to Hunterviile. ‘ Miss B. Harre leaves this week to take up a position at the Halcotnbe school. Miss Joyce Abel, who was successful in gaining her school certificate has accepted a position at the Tiriraukawa School, and will commence duties next week. Other candidates of the Hunterviile district who were successful in passing the examination for school certificate are, Miss Cynthia Coleman, Neville Creep, and R. Morton. Because of the exceptionally dry season, fat lambs and ewes have been trucked away slightly earlier than usual. The railway yards have been kept busy as lorries have lined up to discharge their loads. The Railway Station reports that during January, 17,844 head of sheep (approximately 255 trucks) have been sent away. BOWLS On Saturday, matches in the competition for the Rangitikei Shield were played at Hunterviile and Marton. On the Hunterviile green, the local team defeated Marton by 22 points to 19. At Marton, Hunterviile was defeated by 26 points to 12. On the aggregate score, Marton were the winners.
