EYE BANK FOR AUCKLAND TO BE ESTABLISHED

(P.A.) Auckland, Feb. 3. An eye bank where the eyes of dead people will be kept for corneal tranplantations will be established by the Auckland Hospital Board. Operations for transplanting the cornea have not been common in New Zealand. The scheme was proposed by Dr. C. A. Pittar, eye bank registrar at Auckland of the Opthalmological Society of New Zealand. He has been in communication with an eye bBnk in the United States. In a report to the Hospital Board. Dr. Pittar said that sources of corneal material for grafting would be the eyes of stillborn babies and dead people. The co-operation of all hospital boards will be sought.
