MANAGER FOR N.Z. OLYMPIC GAMES TEAM IS ANNOUNCED
Mr. D. T. Woodfield (Wellington), nominated by the New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association, was selected at a meeting of the New Zealand Olympic Association to manage the New Zealand team for the Olympic Games in London this year. The appointment is subject to the team consisting of six or more members. There were four candidates for the position. The others were Messrs. H. L. Towers (Auckland), nominated by the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association); E. C. Isaacs (Dunedin), nominated by the New Zealand Swimming Association; and L- C. Cotter (Blenheim), nominated by the New Zealand Boxing Association. Mr. Woodfield, uno is 52 years of age, has been actively associated with sport as a competitor and administrator over 39 years. He won New Zealand honours at hockey,' and was a competitor in swimming, water polo and cycling in Christchurch and Dunedin. He has held administrative positions in swimming, water polo, surf life-saving hockey, athletics, and cycling, being a member of the N.Z.A.A.A, of which he was treasurer from 1942 until last year and is also an executive member of the New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association. Mr. Woodfield served overseas for four years during World War I- He has resided in Wellington since 1937. In business he is manager of W. and T. Avery (N.Z ) Ltd. It was agreed that national associations should contribute £250 toward the cost of each member from ■ their ranks chosen in the team, the association to find the balance. The chairman, Mr. A. D. Bayfield, said it was expected that the cost a member would be about £5OO. The team is to be selected in March, and is scheduled to leave New Zealand on April 20- '
