SEMI-FINAL PREPARATIONS FOR SATURDAY A pleasing six-furlong gallop In which Alright finished weilSahead of the Victory Hack candidate Ocean Gold and a smart half-mile by the Coronach colt Buchanan were features of semi-final track gallops yesterday morning in preparation for the Wanganui Jockey Club’s Centennial Cup meeting. Fast work was done on No. 1 grass track, which should benefit from the heavy rain later in the morning. The course .proper, which has been copiously watered for several weeks, is carrying a splendid sward of grass. There are few visitors as yet for the meeting, but among those which have arrived are Tortago, Belle Anita, Odtaa and Reversion.
Alright and Ocean Gold cut out the first furlong of their task in 13 4-ssec. and reached the half-mile in 51 set. Coming home three lengths ahead of his companion, Alright was clocked to cover the six furlongs In 1.18. No riding engagement has yet been announced for Alright, though it is understood that a tentative arrangement was made with N. L. Cavaney to have the mount on Saturday. Jimmy Woodser, who is in the Kai Iwi Maiden, was associated with Swing Bridge in a useful work-out over five furlongs at three-quarter pace. Buchanan was moving well within himself in covering half a mile in 51sec. The Coronach colt appears to have been improved by his racing at the Marton New Year meeting, where he won the Junction Plate on the second day of the fixture)
Belle Anita and Tortago were associated over five furlongs which they left behind in 64 l-ssec., with Belle Anita half a length ahead Of her companion. The Felous juvenile Barlous covered half a mile by himself in 51sec. He was ridden by K. Chote, who will be his pilot on Saturday. Sari, who appears much improved by her recent racing, put in a circuit at three-quarter pace, and asother from Miss Rita Jackson's stable in Ella Shields covered two circuits at a useful pace. H. Dulieu's team, including ,Miss Bairnsfather, Waimanu. Enard Bay, and Divided were let off with useful pacework. All appear in good order. Others to do useful pacework included Michael, All Bay, Reversion and Odtaa.
The Pagan, who may also fulfil an engagement on the second day of the meeting, was also given pacework. He appears In great heart. Another who may race on the second day is Barnaby, the BroiefortRedeem gelding in G. S. Rayner’s stable.
