Last Petrol Selling Day Of Month
Little petrol for others than "regulars” will exist in Wanganui today as it is the last petrol selling day of the month. A survey of city petrol suppliers yesterday revealed that the position varied so widely that no generalisation could be made. Most, resellers are now reconciled to the system of restriction, but are still uneasy about the method by which the restrictions are being enforced. A Dominion-wide poll of resellers had shown the majority in favour of a restricted supply to stations rather than re-introduction of the coupon system, stated the president of the Wanganui branch of the N.Z. Retail Motor Traders’, Association, Mr. F. Hackett. They were still opposed to the method of making the reduction by cutting the amount sold by the station 12 months ago by 10 per cent, to give the new quota. Mr. Hackett added that they felt that this method penalised the station proprietor who had increased his buSThess by careful attention during the intervening year and placed a premium on those stations that had allowed their petrol trade to slacken.
