IDLE-ALONG RACES
WELLINGTON IN STRONG POSITION FOR MOFFAT CUP (P.A.) Dunedin, Jan. 28. Wellington’s representative, Cavalier, sailed by G. Gestro, scored its second successive win in the fourth race sailed in the Moffat Cup Idiealong class series, thus beating West Coast’s Popeye by 16sec. in a thrilling finish after the two boats had rounded the last mark together for a short reach up to the line. South Canterbury's Mazeppa was also a strong challenger at this stage, but was out-sailed on the run home to arrive six seconds after West Coast, in third position. Auckland was fourth, 27 seconds later. With two, wins and one third, in four races, Wellington now has a lead on points from Hawke's Bay, Auckland and Canterbury. With one further race to be sailed tomorrow, Wellington is in the strongest position to win the cup, but a challenge to another race may result from this morning’s race if Wellington does not win outright. The race was sailed in a moderate south east breeze. The boats carried two man crews.
