Salmagundi Colt Brings 2000gns. At Chelandry Stud Sale

(P.A.) Invercargill, Jan. 28. Top price of 2000 guineas was paid by Mr. W. E. Hazlett for the two-year-old colt by Salmagundi from Sparkle at the dispersal sale of the Chelandry Stud today. Widespread interest was shown in the sale and the attendance of about 1200 included buyers from all parts of New Zealand. The 94 lots offered aggregated 21,640 guineas, of which 15.770 guineas was paid for offerings on behalf of the estate of the late W. T. Hazlett and 5870 guineas for those submitted by W. E. and the estate of the late J. S' Hazlett. The total offering averaged 232 guineas. The three stallions submitted. Sir Simper at 100 guineas. Maniototo at 500 guineas and the SalmagundiSparkle coll at 2000 guineas, were all bought bv Mr. W. E. Hazlett. Bidding on the Sparkle colt opened lai 1000 guineas and after two bids of 500 guineas each he was knocked down. It is intended to reserve him for stud duty. The 41 brood mares offered realised 9390 guineas—67os guineas being nald for the 28 offered by the estate of the late W. T. Hazlett and 2685 guineas for the 13 lots suhmitt-d bv W. T. and the estate of J. S. Hazlett. The brood mares averaged 228 guineas each.
