PUBLIC OPPOSITION TO IRAQ'S TREATY WITH BRITAIN (N.Z.P. A.—Copyright.) Received 5.45 p.m. LONDON, Jan. 28 Rioting in Baghdad throughout the day by opponents of the Anglo-Iraq Treaty resulted in the resignation of Saleh Jabr’s Cabinet last nignt, 36 hours after Jabr had returned from negotiating the treaty in London. At least 70 were reported killed and 300 injured in fighting between demonstrators and the police, who used machine-guns and armourred cars, says the ‘‘Daily Telegraph’s” Baghdad correspondent, but last night the crowds were celebrating the Government’s downfall by dancing in the streets.
Disturbances also occurred in other Iraq cities, especially those in the Euphrates Valley, including Hilla, where the British Institute was wrecked. In Baghdad two Cabinet Ministers were fired on by demonstrators, but escaped injury, and an attemp to reach the Prime Minister’s house was repulsed by police fire. The demonstrators then attacked several police stations and seized arms.
