MIDSUMMER PROSPECTS AT ELLERSLIE

ANNIVERSARY DAY FIELDS (Special) Auckland, Jan. 28. Unless the weather breaks, the track at Ellerslie will be very hard for the opening, tomorrow, (Anniversary Day), of the Auckland midsummer meeting. Fields are very good all round, and several scratchings would be necessary to obviate divisions in the opening event. Those good horses Foxwyn and Royal Charter head the list in the Takapuna Cup and they should both go well. Royal Charter has good form this season. Foxfable won nicely at Te Aroha and the distance and the small field will be all in his favour. Ligntweight prospects are Swift Quarry, Black Ace, Lord Barwon, Frontier Mac and Miss Carolina, but Foxfable reads best. Angeline will essay the "hat trick” in the Zealandia Handicap, for this promising filly has won at her last two outings. General Menteith, Royal Scot, Park Royal, Gwen Vaals, Cambria and Beaute are also prospects.
