Hope For Solution In Dispute Between Minister And B.M.A.
(N.Z.P.A.—Copyright. > Recd. 7.5 p.m. Rondon, Jan. 26. Replies to questions put to Mr. Aneurin Bevan by the editor of “The Lancet” do something to encourage the hope that a solution acceptable to both sides will yet be reached on the dispute between the Minister and the British Medical Association over his new Health Act. . Mr, Bevan has stated that the Bill will not take away the doctors’ right of appealing to the courts if they think they have been unlawfully dismissed from the National Health Service. “The Minister himself cannot even remove the doctor’s name from the list,” Mr. Bevan told “The Lancet.” He also said he proposed to appoint immediately a committee of legal experts to say if a partner in an existing partnership is fully protected—a point which has aroused B M.A. fears. If he saw there was evidence that existing partnerships were unfairly prejudiced by the Act he will I at once seek an amendment of it.
