ARCTIC CIRCLE SOLD TO AMBERLEY OWNER
(P.A.) Wellington, Jan. 26. Top price of 950gns. at the annual sale of brood mares, horses in training and untried stock, held at Trentham today, was brought by the Theio mare Seletheo. With colt foal at foot by Robin Goodfellow', she was offered by Mrs. C. Bullans, Marailgi Bay, Auckland, and was secured by Mr. E. A. Rattray, Christchurch. Forty-two brood mares were sold for an aggregate of 12,077ign5„ an average of 287gns. Only two mares were purchased for Australia, Limulus, with filly foal at foot by Pherozshah, for 420gns., and Dawn Quest, with flllv foal at foot by Lord Coronach, for 350gns. Both were secured by Mr. C. E. Wheeler, Adelaide. Princess Ball, dam of Record Reign, was sold for 150gns. Record Reign is the highest-priced yearling to be sold at auction in New Zealand, having fetched 4750gns. at the 1946 sales. Highest price for a horse in training was brought by Arctic Circle, who was purchased by Mr. P. W. Hall, Amberley, for 400gns. He was offered by Mr. G. M. Currie, Kai Iwi. The two-year-olds Luminous and High Power were passed in at 700'. gs. and 800gns. respectively. There was little demand for untrained stock. Best price in this category was brought by the two-year-old filly by Probation-Water-bridge, secured by Messrs G. W. Vercoe and Co., Hamilton, as agents. She was offered by Mr. C. Charlton. Cambridge. The stallion Paper Slipper was passed in at 200gns.
