NEW ZEALAND WINNERS AT ROSEHILL Recd. 7.30 p.m. Sydney, Jan. 18. Former New Zealanders had a successful day at Rosehill yesterday. The three-year-old Nizami gelding Farhad, bought last season by Mr. Ro. mano in New Zealand for 3500gns. and wearing Bernborough’s colours, scored brilliantly in the Rosehill Flying Handicap and will be entered for the Victorian Newmarket. Running near the tail of the weak field, he was only seventh into the straight, but produced a terrific burst of speed to nose out Rose Glory. This is his second start and first win in Australia. The Lord Mayor’s Cup developed into a duel between the New Zealanders Kerry Lad and Piccolo, with the former scoring his first win in Australia. He is now strongly favoured for the Anniversary Handicap. Piccolo jumped to the front at the three furlongs, but Kerry Lad, running a perfect race, was too fast at the finish. Results:— Flying Handicap. Farhad 7.13 (Brisco) 1; Rose Glory 7.1 (Kerrigan) 2;.Critique 7.4 (Podmore) 3. Eleven started. Long head; one and a-half lengths. Time, 1.26 2-5.
