TALKS IN WELLINGTON

SIR CARL BERENDSEN RETURNINC Washington, Jan. 16 The New Zealand Minister, Sir Carl Berenrisen will leave Washingtonian January 18 on the first stage of a journey to New Zealand for consultations with the Government in Wellington. Sir Carl Berendsen and his wife will leave San Francisco by air on January 24 and expect to spend several weeks in New Zealand. The newly-appointed United States Minister to New Zealand, Mr. Robert Scotten, is also to leave Washington on January 18 for New Zealand. Today he called at the White House to pay his respects to President Truman, and he will attend a ceremony at the New Zealand Legation tomorrow, when United States Navy and Marine officers will be decorated for distinguished services in the Pacific. Mr. and Mrs. Scotten will go to New York to join the steamer Port Pirie, which sails on January 21. Since his appointment as Minister Mr. Scotten has improved his knowledge of New Zealand by frequent visits to the Dominion Legation in Washington. He declared today that all he had learned and read about New Zealand had increased his enthusiasm at the prospect of going there.
