.(P A.) Thames, Jan. 13 While cruising in the Hauraki Gulf some distance from Coromandel a Thames launch party, F. Adamson (owner), H. GaHop, P. Webb and. A. Rowe, had a very unpleasant experience. The engine began to fail and while the owner attempted to make an adjustment a can of oil exploded and caught fire. The blaze spread over the engine. The crew fought the flames despertely for some time and were able to prevent the Are reaching the fuel tank. Eventually the fire was got under control. The launch was later towed to Coromandel. The crew suffered superficial injuries.
