HALF A MILLION G.I. BABIES STARVING

Recd. 8 p.m. New York, Jan. 14 The New York “Daily News” reports that there are at least half a million G.I. illegitimate babies throughout the world existing in disgrace and semi-starvation. The “Daily News ” which charges the United States Government with a hush-hush policy on the subject, says that in the Pacific theatre there are at least 100,000 cases wherein the mother of a G.I. has confessed to the illegitimacy. The “Daily News” quotes Richard Taylor, third secretary of the New Zealand legation. Washington, as saying that one reason for the reticence of foreign embassies is deference to the reputation the womanhood of their countries. The “Daily News” adds that as comparatively few United States troops were stationed in New Zealand the problem there is not as severe as in other Pacific countries.
