TRYING ORDEAL FOR BADLY INJURED MAN

(P.A.) Napier, Jan. 13. Crushed when caught by a falling tree, at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, at Pol.ukura, about 60 miles north of Napier, on the Taupo Road, John Clapperton, a mill employee, did not reach the Napier Hospital until 4.30 p.m. He was engaged in felling a big matai tree whien swung aside after striking another tree and pinned him to the ground. Clapperton was taken to the main road in a truck and from there an attempt was made to reach Napier by private car which, however, broke down on a high hill climb, necessitating a long wait for a service car. The final stage of the journey was made by the St. John Ambulance which met the service ear. Clapperton i cached the hospital seven and a-half hours after the accident suffering from a broken left leg, and possloly three bones broken in the right foot and a fractured shoulder.
