Small Store Sheep Yarding Offered At Stortford Lodge (P.A.) Hastings, Jan. 14. The yarding of store sheep at Stortford Lodge to-day was unusually small for this time of the year, only 7000 being offered for sale. Prices for medium lambs were slightly better than those obtaining last week. A pen of very good early-shorn wether lambs topped the market when they were knocked down after animated bidding for 28s lOd. The e were 140 in the line and they were a splendid lot. Top price for grown sheep was obtained for a pen of 84 sizey 2-tooth ewes, tile bidding for which quickly reached 40s. The market generally, showed a firming tendency. The fat sheep market generally operated in conforming with the firming trend in other sections of the sale. Fat ewes ranged in price from 28s 4d down to 22s 4d, fat wethers from 39s Id to 38s lOd to 36s lOd, and fat lambs from 37s 7d down to 31s 7d There was a very small entry of store cattle for this time of the year, only 65 coming forward. There was not a .great deal of interest in the offering. though a line of bullocks brought £l4 18s. The market for fat cattle was firm. An entry of 185 good quality beasts attracted keen interest from a fairly large bench of buyers. An entry of 27 good quality heavy bullocks, mainly A.A., but with a pen of Shorthorn cross, ranged in price from £23 8s 6d. £22 18s 6d, and £l9 18s 6d to £l9 13s 6d. This was the best price of the sale, though an entry of 15 prime bullocks, all good heavy cattle, brought £22 13s 6d, £22 3s 6d. £2O 13s 6d. Other heavy bullocks ranged in price from £2l 3s 6d, £2O 13s 6d, £l9 8s 6d, £l9 Is, £lB 16s, £l7 18s 6d, £l5 13s 6d, to £l5 3s 6d, for lighter types. Others not so heavy brought £l5 18s 6d, £l5 Is, and £l4 8s 6d An entry of 24 cows and heifers sold at from £2l Is, £ll Is, £lO 13s 6:1. £lO 3s 6d, £9 Ils, £9 8s 6d, to £9 Is.
