MANAWATU STUD SHEEP SALE
180 ROMNEY RAMS OFFERED ON FIRST DAY Feilding, Jan. 13. With an offering of about 180 head of stud Romney rams, the 20th annual Manawatu and West Coast stud sheep sale opened at Feilding today before a crowded bench of buyers from all parts of New Zealand. The market opened with vigorous competition on the offering of A. Brown and Sons, the well-known Teilding breeders, the first two rams selling for 575 and 525gns. respectively. But from then onward competition became spasmodic and at times dull. The choice of buyers appeared to be very narrow and was confined to only the heavy-woolled type of rams, for which competition was quite good. The peak price of the sale was 800 gns., compared with 710gns. last year, the vendor being the Estate E. D. Warburton, Kiwitea, and the purchaser Mr. H. B. Johnson, Cheltenham, Feilding. A. Brown and Sons obtained the second highest price of 700gns„ the purchaser being Mr. W. M. Stewart, Waiata, Feilding. The sales recorded below realised a total of about 16,400gn5., the average price of the 109 rams sold being 150 gns.
