RANGATIRA DELAYED

ENGINE FAILS ON WAY TO LYTTELTON

(P.A.) Christchurch, Dec. 25. With 900 passenger aboard, the steamer express Rangatira was delayed by engine trouble on a voyage from Wellington to Lyttelton last night, and arrived four hours late this morning. Between midnight and 1 a.m. the port engine failed and the vessel was stopped for half an hour. Attempts at repairs were ineffectual and the vessel proceeded to Lyttelton on one engine. She was met at the heads by a tug which assisted her to berth. The Railway Department held the expresses until the arrival of passengers from the north. The faulty engine was repaired this afternoon and the Rangatira sailed as usual this evening.
