TARANAKI SUMMER MEETING

NEW PLYMOUTH PROSPECTS In spite of the clash with other holiday meetings the Taranaki Jockey Club’s summer meeting, to be held at New Plymouth today and tomorrow, continues to make a strong appeal not only to Taranaki trainers but also to a contingent from further afield. The programme is one which cannot but appeal to patrons, and the large fields are likely to provide keen racing. The track will be improved by rain earlier in the week and the going should be easier than at first expected. Betting is win-and-place, a system first introduced at New Plymouth, and the photo-finish installation is another service which will be appreciated by patrons. Principal event is the Christmas Handicap, the field for which is headed by the well-performed Precedency. Dunbar, Silver Pal and Fort Royal may be expected to provide stout opposition to the top-weight, and there are possibilities among the lightweights. i Another visitor in Hunting Camp heads the acceptors for the Flying Handicap, but Taranaki followers of form may be loyal to Brown Derby, who ran a good rac e at Awapuni, Mangarakau and Morning Dew.

Though the fields for the Huatoki Plate and the Tikorangi Hack Handicap are large divisions will not be required. The following may be fancied:—

Rahotu Hurdles.—Perla Prince, Middoon, Tatara Lad. Huatoki Plate.—Judiciary, White Diamond, Seawynn. Borough Juvenile.—Hogh Power, Layleen, Adicia. Tikorangi Hack Handicap.— Morea Fox, Pan Walla, Sparkling Scholar. Taranaki Hack Cup.—Reignon, Fine Flavoui, Baffles Rex. Christmas Handicap.— Silver Pal, Dunbar, Precedency. Flying Handicap.— Brown Derby, Hunting Camp, Morning Dew. Stewards’ Hack Handicap.— Gay Slipper, Night School, Mr. Pym.
