ON AWAPUNi TRACKS YESTERDAY

At Awapuni this morning the programme was comparatively a light one. The heavy rain during the weels-end has worked wonders with the course proper and the going was without sting. Probably the most interesting gallop oi the morning was that of Thimble (Taitersallt and Voltaic (Harris) over a mile. Thimble, on the jnner, wanted to go fast, but was under a nice hold to the three, reached in 1.8. From that mark the pace was increased a shade, and they came home the last three furlongs easily in 42 sec. to complete in 1.50. Both are acceptors for the big handicap on Boxing Day. Another good effort over a piile was that of Lady Burford (Aitken), who was accompanied by Lady Barrington (Ta,ttersall) for six furlongs. They ran the first five in 1.7 .3-5, and Lady Burford was home in 41 3-ssec., to complete in 149 1-5. The two-year-old Capitalist (Tattersall) worked attractively over half a mile in 52 l-ssec. Blank Cheque ran seven furlongs in 1.38 3-5, but was not against the watch. Arctic Circle did similar work Lady Cocoanut (Stowe) sprinted five furlongs .r. 1.5 4-5, breaking 40 sec. for the last three. Harleyholm and Reveller also worked well over five, returning identical time, but ran the last three in 39 1-5, which was good. Specialist <P.. Beale) was going easily beside King Regent at the end of three furlongs in 39 l-ssec. Imperial, very unlucky last Saturday, ran a mile under restraint.
