WANGANUI PROVINCIAL MEETING OF THE WOMEN’S DIVISION

Delegates from nearly all the branches were welcomed by the president (Mrs A. McPhail) at tne quarterly meeting of the Wanganui provincial of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers, held yesterday in the small lounge at the Y.M.-Y.W.C.A. Sympathy was expressed with Mrs. Laird (Westmere) in the death of her husband. All stood in silence as a mark of sympathy. The president reported that she had received a letter of thanks from the British Sailors’ Society for the sum of £7 13s 4d collected. Mrs Pratt, housekeeper secretary, stated that the housekeeper had been fully engaged and gave excellent service. Reporting on the Aid to Britain Committee the president said that food was required more than money, and urged that each home make a sacrifice and do without a little more and save for Britain. She said a depot to receive donations of food is to be established. The president also made an appeal for fat, saying that the W.D.F.F. and W.I. have undertaken to help in this appeal, which applies particularly to country districts. She explained that fats must be clean, fresh and sweet, and sent in regularly in small quantities rather than large ones which were stale. Fats must not be tainted with fish, salt, etc. Miss J. Macdonald reported on the Town and Country Residential Nursery, and said that results had justified the establishment of the nursery. Parents who had left their children there have expressed their appreciation. The committee hopes for more support from country mothers. The following remit from the Waverley branch was approved for conference: "That in the interests of the nation’s health and in the interests of the primary producers the Government and the Wool Board be requested to institute locally and advocate internationally, the labelling of all material with the percentage of wool, silk and cotton and fibre content." Delegates were reminded that donations to headquarters were now due. It. was announced that a suitable nronerty had been uurchased in Auckland, this making the fourth W.D.F.F. rest home established bv the organisation. Mrs Duncan Simpson’s report, of the Amsterdam conference was read, also the report of the Dominion Advisory Board. Flowers were nresented bv the preident to Miss Polson (secretary), Mrs Pratt (housekeeocr secretary). Miss Bartrum (treasurer), and Miss Worgan (tea convener). On behalf of the delegates Mrs Frederick moved a heartv vote of thanks to the Wanganui branch for the afternooYi tea provided Being the last, meeting for the year Mrs McPhail wished all a nappy Christmas and New Year.
