Roll Of Honour For Okoia Unveiled By Patron Of R.S.A.
Many residents of Okoia and surrounding districts gathered recently for the unveiling of a district Roll of Honour in the Okoia Hall. The ceremony was carried out by Mr. E. W. Merewether, patron of the Wanganui Returned Services’ Association, and Mr. H. Hogg, chairman of the Patriotic and Roll of Honour Committee, presided. In extending a welcome to all present, Mr. Hogg said that the Roll of Honour Board was the work of an Okoia returned soldier, Mr. J. Robinson. Mr. lan Higgle paid a tribute to the committee’s work and outlined ils activities during thh war years, another speaker being Mr. G. R. Jones. After Mr. Merewether had given a brief address the gathering stood in silence while he drew aside the flag which veiled the Roll of Honour. Subsequently, the National Anthem was sung. After the ceremony Mr. Hogg, on behalf of residents, formally handed* over the Roll of Honour Board to the Hall Committee for all time. Mr. Hogg was thanked bv the chairman of the Hall Committee, Mr. Bruce Oliver.
