Nov. 14 The Swedish Academy announced that Sir Edward Appleton. the discoverer off the ionosphere, has been awarded the Nobel Prize for physics and Sii’ Robert Robinson the Nobel Prize for chemistry, for his research on lhe biological importance of alkaloids from vegetables.

Children’s Film Cheered. The children’s film “The Little Ballerina” was warmly received when it was trade shown in the G.F.D. Theatre, Wardour Street, London. Designed primarily for the Saturday morning cinema shows for children, the film tells the story of a little girl who longs to follow in Margot Fonteyn’s footsteps on the ballet stage—and achieves her ambition. Margot Fonteyn and Martita Hunt head a cast largely composed of youthful ballet pupils in the film.
