PRODUCTION OF MOTOR TYRES IN N.Z. IS LIKELY NEXT YEAR
(P.A.) Auckland, Oct. 27. The production of motor tyres in New Zealand should be commenced next year, according to Mr. G. C. W. Reid, managing director of Reid New Zealand Rubber Mills Ltd., who returned by Pan American Airways clipper. He has been visiting England and America.
There was still difficulty in obtaining plant and raw material, said Mr. Reid, but he had been able to ensure that production of tyres in the Penrose factory of his company would not be held up. through lack of raw materials. As far as deliveries of plant were concerned they were being pushed ahead, but the problem of buildings still remained because of the shortage of labour. Production of tyres in America was still at capacity, added Mr. Reid, but factories there seemed to be catching un on the demand. Truck tyres were now being constructed mainly of natural rubber, but car tyres and tubes contained a proportion of synthetic rubber.
