N.Z. WORKERS TO CELEBRATE ITS ANNIVERSARY I (P.A) Wellington, Oct. 14 “The World Federation of Trade Unions, comprising over 75,000,000 trade unionists to which the New Zealand Federation of Labour is affiliated, has now been established over two years. Its anniversary is markeu by an important number of activities carried out in support of the rights and liberties of workers, for the peace | and development of democracy ! throughout the world. In response to Jan appeal from the executive bureau ■of the World Federation of Trade (Unions, the New Zealand Federation iof Labour, in common with national | trade union centres in other countries, | takes this opportunity,” stated the National Executive of the Federation of I Labour to-day, “to call upon the work'ers of New Zealand to celebrate the • anniversary by an increase in their efforts to make the work of the trade I union movement still more efficient. “The world unity of workers will be ( (sealed and strengthened on this second (anniversary of all trade unionists taking up the responsibility of actively working to further the economic and social conditions of the people in all countries. In some countries, trade I unions struggle against oppression and ! against the exploitation of both men and women \Vhich is most intense. The consequent poverty and suffering in thosd countries is a menace to those workers in countries more favourably situated, and if peace is to prevail the need for renewed effort upon the part of trade unionists is more timely and necessary than ever. “The New Zealand Federation of Labour emphasises its determination to see that peace is safeguarded and to this end will react with continued energy against aIL campaigns aiming to foster the inevitability of war and will continue to work for the annihilation of the remnants of Fascism.”
