London, Oct. 4. • Guided solely by radar, the Empress of Canada berthed at Liverpool only four minutes late in a thick for which in other days would have obliged her to anchor offshore. She is the first large ship to berth by radar. . , , Captain E. A. Shergold said that from the time he reached the lightship off Liverpool until a motor launch slipped out from the landing stage and a voice shouted "you re here.” ships officers saw only what the radar screen showed.
