LODGE JUBILEE
Visitors from all over the North Island attended the silver | bilee -of Miro Lodge No. 79, U.A.0.D., which was held in the Druids' Hall, Raetihi, on Saturday evening. The attendance numbered 120—42 of whom were visitors—and the celebrations were an outstanding success. The secretary read a letter in which the Grand President, Bro. H. E. Wells, the Grand Treasurer, Bro. R. Gauntlett and the Grand Guardian, Bro. H Hobday, apologised for non-attendance, but which also conveyed their warmest fraternal greetings and hearty congratulations on the occasion. Bro. A. E. Urwln extended a warm welcome to the visitors, and a toast in their honour was replied to by Bro. A. J. Relph, of Bishop Lodge, Wanganui, Bro. W. Gardiner, Macky Lodge, Taihape, Bro. H. Goddard, Ngahoa Lodge, Taumarunui, Bro A. J. Menzies, Macky Lodge, Taihape, Bro. K. Stephen, Manakau Lodge, Auckland, Bro. W. J. Millan, Star of Egmont Lodge, Patea, Bro. H. Graham, Stonehenge Lodge, Masterton and Bro. H. H. Tonkin, Northern Oak Lodge, Darga ville. The toast, "Foundation Members,” was proposed by Bro. E. S. Davis and Bro. H. Green, who was the convener of the first meeting to discuss the formation of the lodge in 1922, responded. In responding to the toast of the "Grand Lodge,” Bro. H. A. Dunderdale (G.V.P.) Masterton, congratulated Miro Lodge on the attainment of their silver jubilee and spoke of the fine record of the lodge. Bro. F. Ramabottom (J.P.G.P.), Patea, in replying, touched on the history of Druidism, which was founded in the year 400 8.C., and described the yearly prilgrimage of Druids to "that great place 1 Stonehenge. Vocal and Instrumental items were contributed by both visitors and local members, and the gathering closed with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” Visitors were taken to the Chateau on Sunday and up to the snowfield in the vicinity of Salt Memorial Hut. OBITUARY. \ Mr. William Nairn, whose death occurred on September 26, was a resident of Raetihi for 28 years. He first came into the district in the employ jf Collett Bros., of Dannevirke, but subsequently he took up a position as engine driver with the Makotuku Timber Co. and continued in their service until his retirement a few years ago. Mr. Nairn, who was 75 years of age, is survived by his wife and a family of five sons and two daughters. RAINFALL FOR SEPTEMBER Rain fell on 16 days during the month of September for a total of 4.98 inches. The wettest day was on the first of the month, when 1.17 inches was registered. Quite a number of frosts occurred, and there were two falls of snow—one of three inches qn the 2nd and a lighter one on the 25th. During September, 1946, there were 20 wet days and 6.18 inches of rain and for the the same month of the previous year 4.35 in. for 16 days with rain. RAETIHI MAYORALTY. Responding to a deputation of councillors and other business men who waited on him at the Borough Council Chambers on Thursday evening, the sitting Mayor, Mr. A. E. Urwln, gave an assurance that he would be prepared to accept nomination for a further term at the election to be hila in November. Mr. Urwln has been in the mayoral chair since the retirement of Dr. W. J. Feltham last December.
