Reduction Sought In Postage Rates On Gift Parcels to U.K.

(P.A.) Auckland, Oct. 7. A suggestion that a reduction in the postage charged for gift food parcels might be reconsidered has been made by Mayor, Mr. J A. C. AlLum, in a letter to the PostmasterGeneral (Mr. Hackett). “From time to time I have been asked to approach the Government with a request that the postage on gift food parcels sent to the United Kin geo mshould be reduced,” said Mr Allum. "On each occasion I have passed on the explanation given by the Government that the greater part of the charge covers freight and delivery costs in the United Kingdom." Mr. Allum said he had just noticed that postage on gift parcels from South Africa to Europe had been reduced by twopence per pound. "If this is correct, Mr. Allum added, "is it possible foi’ you to reconsider the request for a reduction in the postage tor gift food parcels from New Zealand?"
