Bos Murphy Has Provided for Good Meals in Britain
(P.A.) Wellington, Oct. 5. A daily diet of a pound ot steak, four eggs, plenty of green food, carrots and ice cream by two New Zealanders in England may be calculated to arouse some envy under presentdav conditions. Provision for this was made by the New Zealand boxer. Bos Murphy, before leaving for England, accompanied by the Hutt Valley boxer, Johnnie McKenna, in search of boxing honours. A P.A.-Reuter message from L ondon says Murphy cabled a British promoter, Jack Solomons, to arrange cold storage space for 2cwt. of meat he was bringing with him so that he would not go short. Mr. P. J. Galvin. Murphy s employer. said tonight that the preparations Murphy had made for a stay ot approximately eight months in England included not only meat, wnic.i cost between £ll and £l2 and consisted mainly of steaks, livers, and fat, but also 30 dozen eggs, plenty ot cheese, jams, canned r.iilk, soap etc. These supplies would be shared with McKenna. The securing ot the meat had been due to the generosity ot Murphy’s many friends, among whom a muster had been held fir the necessary coupons. Arrangements were made for the cold storage of meat on the Rimutaka. Actually the space required in England for this would be comparatively small. . "Once he is down to hard training, Murphy's diet will consist ot a pound of steak, four eggs, greens and carrots and ice cream," said Mr. Galvin. Murphy will be kept right off starch foods, sweets and tea. He would probably consume a pint of ice cream
