SEVERAL AUSTRALIAN MARCHING TEAMS LINK WITH THE N.Z. UNION
“Girls marching is rapidly spreading in. Australia and an all-Australian team will be competing at the New Zealand championships, to be held aj. Masterton next year,” said Mr. L. Wright, president of the New Zealand Marching Union, in an interview last n;ght. He was of opinion that marching had a bright future in New Zealand.
Mr. Wright returned to Wanganui last night with the Fusiliers (Warnock’s) Girls’ marching team, which had been in Australia and met with great success there. Mr. Wright said that there was an attendance of 8000 in the afternoon when the Australian .marching championships were held at Tamworth, and at night, when the Australas.aa t.tle was decided, there was 7000. Fusiliers beat Grace Bros.’ team in the final.
Mr. Wright stated that sevciai big Sydney emporiums had linked up with the New. Zealan.i Marching Union, whose iic uiquarters was in Wanganui.
The team had enjoyed its trip immensely, and the trip by plane, both going and returning across the Tasman, had been highlights of the tour.
