Efforts to Control Variegated Thistle In Rangitikei
(S.R.) Marton. Oct. 2. Variegated thistle appeared Ir> be less vigorous in growth on properties where if had been cut or grubbed out last season .stated the noxious weeds inspector, Mr. J. Robinson (Huntervilie), in his monthly report to the Rangitikei County Council, adopted at the meeting in Marton today. During September, Mr. Robinson added, his inspections were confined mainly to properties where this weed was in evidence and many owners of land had been interviewed. "In some districts in the southern portion of the county there is to be noted a great difference in paddocks where the thistle had been either cut or grubbed," he stated. "The new season’s growth is stunted and has a yellowish colour, compared with the light green, healthy plants in paddocks which were not cut last season. "This weed is without doubt spreading northward and is now to be found in isolated plants and small patches in most districts in the northern portion of the county."
