Mechanical Brain

Recd. 6 p.m. London, Oct. 2. Doctor C. V. Wilkes, Director of Cambridge Mathematical laboratory, and radar- specialist, has completed the construction of a two ton mechanical brain which he named “Edsac” (electronic delay storage automatic calculator) Dr. Wilkes said the brain is capable of answering 100,000 mathematical calculations in one minute, and is capable of carrying out mathematical work and solving problems too complicated for the human mind. Its capacity is 25 times that of the American mechanical brain, - completed earlier this year.

Questions are fed into the brain on punched tape and answers are delivered in the form of teleprinted messages.
