Russian Army Strongest and World's Best

(Special N.Z.P.A. Correspondent) Recd. 6 p.m. London, Oct. 1 A Washington message to the New York “Herald-Tribune” European edition, says: “The Armoured Cavalry Journal” publishes an article claiming that the strength of the Russian army is now between 3,500,000 and 4,000,000 men, of whom at least 500,000 are serving in heavily mechanised units. The associate editor of the journal, Major H. D. Stewart, says the Russian army is today the best trained in the world, and the most nearly prepared for actual combat. “It could probably invade and occupy the whole of western Europe against the resistance of the present British and French troops in Europe in a matter of 48 hours.”
