WAVERLEY NOTES

LAWN TENNIS CLUB (O.C. > Wavcrley, Sept. 28. At the annual general meeting of the club it was decided that opening day of the tennis club will be on November 1. Working bees are to be held to get the grounds in order and the two which have already been held have been well attended and a good start has been made. Reference was made by members of the work the retiring president (Mr. J. P. Stewart), had put into the club since its revival after the war years, and the gratitude of members was expressed fully at the meeting. After considerable discussion it wa s decided that, owing to the cost of balls and other expenses, subscriptions would be raised 10s this year. Club championships and handicap events are to be inaugurated this year and it is hoped it will create more interest between members. A full programme oi inter-club matches will also be played. Officers elected for this season are: Patron, Dr. P. V. Graves; club caplain, Mr. L. Tippins: vice-captain, to be elected later; president, Mr. G. Couchman; vice-presidents, Mrs. 11. S. Barrow, and Mr. .1. B. Walkinton; secretaiy-treasurer, Mr. P. Lang; Auditor, Mr. R. E. McGregor; ronimliee. Mi’s. T. Stewart, Misses ,T. Couling, J. Boyne and ij. Bilton, Messrs L. Hone, R. Quayle. D. Newland, A J. Dickie, R. Newland and G Simpton.
