Prohibition of Slaughter of Lambs Under 30lb. Weight

(P.A.) Wellington. Sept. 29. As an aid-to-Britaln measure an order prohibiting the killing of lambs with a dressed weight not exceeding 301 h. for New Zealand consumption was Gazetted today. The ordeis which is known as the Slaughter of Control Order, 194 7, prohibits the sale or purchase for slaughter for human consumption in New Zealand or the slaughter for such purposes of lambs not more than 301 b. dressed weight. The prohibition will apply in the North Island until November 3 and in the South Island until November 24. Commenting on the order the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Cullen, said the idea had been recommended to the Government by the Aid to Britain Council. The Council’s recommendation was intended to apply only to lambs slaughtered for human consumption in New Zealand and the Gazetted order would therefore not apply to the killing of lambs for export.
