Efforts To Have Girls’ Marching Under Unified Control

In an effort to have marching throughout New Zealand under unified control, the New Zealand Marching Union (Wanganui) is planning a conference with representatives of the New Zealand Girls’ Marching and Interhouse Association (Wellington). It is hoped that this conference will be held on October 4.

There is no indication yet as to what the new controlling body, if set up, will he called, but. Wanganui interests who sifyport the Marching Union will not necessarily insist that this name should be carried on. This was made known by the union president, Mr. L. E. Wright, Wanganui, oefore he left, for Australia to prepare for the tour of the New Zealand champion team, Warnock's Fusiliers.

According to Mr. Wright, the Internal affairs Department, sponsors of the Wellington-domiciled Marching and Interhouse Association, agrees with the union that marching should have one controlling body as with most other sports in the Dominion. It is understood that the conference in October will be presided over by the Under-Secretary of the Internal Affairs Department, Mr. A. S. Harper. The date for this conference was set at an executive meeting of the N.Z. union in Wanganui recently, when it was decided that the union would zone its districts and control all competitions arranged in the districts of its affiliated associations. In national competitions in future, the union proposes that each association with five affiliated teams should select one representative team and each association with ten teams should select two representative teams.

Supporters of the N.Z. union expect that these new rules will be submitted to the October conference if Wellington’s national body agrees to the merger.
