RATES OF WAGES

NEW APPLICATION MAY BE MADE TO THE COURT

(P.A.) Wellington, Aug. 19 It was stated officially today that the whole trades union movement will have to oonsider whether a further wages application will be made to the Arbitration Court after the effect of the Budget has been assessed. In due course the national council of the Federation of Labour will examine the court’s wages pronouncement. No date for the meeting has yet been fixed, but it will have to consider the incidence of taxation as well as increases in the cost of goods and services as a result of the withdrawal of subsidies, it was stated today. The trade union movement will cooperate in securing an increased volume of goods and services in an effort to increase purchasing power, and it was explained officially that these goods would, in the opinion of trade union movement, be increased with the number of persons occupied in factories and on the land.
