Dutch Have Halted Their Forces

Recd. 10 p.m. Batavia. Aug. 5 Netherlands troops brought their advance to a standstill at midnight in compliance with orders of General S. H. Spoor, states a Dutch communique. Good progress had been made until the cease fire with "protective measures" and “clearing actions” on Madura, an island off the north-east

coast of Java. A Dutch navy fighter was shot down by ground fire over Madura Island. In east Java Netherlands troops occupied Grisse, ten miles north-west of Sourabaya. Mapping up operations were also carried out in an area west of Sourabaya.
