N.Z. Has Big Share of World’s Newsprint

(N.Z. P. A.—Reuter—Copyright.) Recd. 12.40 a.m. New York. Aug. 1. Freedom of the Press is curtailed by an unequal distribution of the world’s supply of newsprint, the United Nations Education and Scientific and Cultural Organisation will report at a meeting and its commission of experts on August 28, in Paris. The report, after pointing out that the United States consumes 65 per cent, of the world’s total supply, and New Zealand, with a population of one and a-half million, receives the same amount of newsprint as India, with a population of 388,000,000 says citizens are prevented from being fully informed on world affairs and a number of nations are unable to assume full responsibility in the world community because of the shortage.
