THE NEW QUEEN MARY
London, July 31. The liner Queen Mary, which will join the Queen Elizabeth tomorrow on the North Atlantic passenger run after complete reconditioning, has had all her pre-war luxury fittings restored and a number of new improvements added. These include a picture theatre, which replaces the starboard galley, two garden lounges on the promenade deck, a new dance room on the port side, and greatly improved quarters for the crew. Many of the decorations are also new, including striking carved wood friezes, the work of Mr. Bainbridge Copnail, one of Britain’s leading decorators and wood carvers.
The railings on which hundreds of the liner’s wartime passengers caned •ueir names have been replaced, and the panelled walls which were protected with plywood for the duration of hostilities have again been upcovered and polished. The work of reconversion has taken ten months.
